LIFE OF THE PARTY
SAKO Now Appearing at Your Own Special Event
Los Angeles – Following a sold out concert at Glendale’s Alex Theater in July, singer-songwriter Sako continues to diversify, both in terms of creative output and live performances.
The artist released his 11th album, Shall We Dance, in August, to instant popular acclaim.
But perhaps what makes 2006 a standout year
in Sako’s career is an expansion of performances beyond the concert stage, at sizeable private venues in and beyond Los Angeles.
DANCE MUSIC FOR THE SOUL
By Saro Gyodakyan
Celebrated Diaspora vocalist Sako is among a generation of musicians for whom creative freedom and personal expression are of foremost importance. They have approached their art as though it were a shrine, reverentially, pushing aside all that’s alien to one’s creative integrity.
At a time when Eastern music has become all but generic, Sako’s music, true to the best impulses of the Armenian vocal heritage, is in a league all its own: deeply emotional yet wiry, steering clear of cheesy sentimentalism.
