I can’t begin to imagine what it would feel like to step foot on the soil of our motherland... to look up-close at Ararat, that miraculous mountain of our identity, which embodies the profound mystery of our being and perseverance. I should mention, incidentally, that one of my albums was arranged, recorded, and released in Yerevan in 2001. Recently, when a bone-marrow donor was being sought for a sick child in Armenia, Sako was informed that, out of 15,000 candidates, his blood type was the only one that matched the child’s. Sako’s readiness was in part driven by a desire to honor the memory of one of his closest friends, the well-known Los Angeles videographer Boris, whose untimely death had devastated him.
